Located right in the heart of Manchester’s liveliest neighbourhood, Postal Street is the next instalment of This City’s developments.
These 126 one and two bed apartments will be a place to call home in amongst the action of the vibrant Northern Quarter.
With all that the area has to offer on your doorstep, Postal Street will give residents a community that extends beyond the home and into the fabric of Manchester.
New homes at Postal Street will include 20% set at Manchester Living Rent integrated within the development.
We also have significant sustainability ambitions which sit alongside this, aiming to promote accessible living in attractive and energy efficient homes.
We’re bringing our vision for homes with a Manchester twist, tried and tested at No.1 Ancoats Green, to this corner of the city. They will be sustainable homes to rent that are rooted in the community.

We are on a path to Net Zero, and have developed the designs for the building whilst monitoring it’s performance against the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard as a case study in it’s Pilot Programme.
Postal Street will take a fabric first approach with high levels of insulation, air tight construction and measures to maximise daylighting whilst avoiding overheating.
Homes will be comfortable with a low energy demand, with PVs providing on-site energy generation.
A raised wild flower garden boosts biodiversity, and this green roof also helps with catching rain water to ease the flow into the city’s drainage system.
Postal Street will have spaces on the ground floor for commercial uses and the resident community. We are also planning to improve the streets around the building, pedestrianising portions of Faraday and Dean Street, contributing to the vibrant neighbourhood of the Northern Quarter.
As we’re here for the long term, we want our building to evolve with the community. We’re looking for local people to help us find it’s place here – and would love to hear from anyone with creative ideas for our billboard facades.
This City’s mission is to help meet the demand for high-quality, low-carbon rental housing across Manchester.
We have a long-term commitment as building owner-operator, embedded within the local community, to support residents to have long-term stable housing.

What are you building?
Our ambition is to build 500+ homes a year across Manchester. In our first development, No. 1 Ancoats Green, we are building a combination of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments and 3 and 4 bedroom townhouses available for rent and designed to appeal to a broad range of different people’s housing needs.
Our next scheme to come forward is Postal Street which is located in the Northern Quarter. We are aiming to bring forward 126 1 and 2 bed apartments with a ground floor commercial offering to extend the vibrancy of Port Street.
Beyond that, we have sites at Grey Mare Lane, Monsall and Belle Vue coming forward. Designs are underway but the blend of apartments and houses will flex to meet the needs of these areas. So the mix, number of bedrooms and configurations will be designed with the prospective residents in mind. Ensure you’re signed up to our newsletter to be kept informed of our progress:
Why is it different to other types of renting?
Because we’re backed by Manchester City Council, you know some of the rent you pay goes back into the city your call home, funding things like more homes and public spaces. So every resident is making a difference just by living in one of our homes.
We believe that places for rent can be a forever home, so our design and build philosophy focuses on creating generous low carbon living spaces with energy efficient features that keep costs down.
Our homes are designed to help residents secure long term, stable housing. We’re doing this by taking a modern approach to the rental market and applying Mancunian values to how and why they are financed, built and managed.
We also strive to bring the Mancunian spirit to what we do – by designing community focused developments that foster human connection and strengthen existing communities.
What length of tenancies do you offer?
We offer flexible tenancies depending on your needs.
Can I bring my pet?
Of course – subject to you agreeing to our pet policy, your pet is more than welcome!
Are your homes fully furnished?
Yes, our homes can be fully furnished with a thoughtful furniture pack appropriate to the size of the property, giving you what you need from day one.
Who owns and supports THIS CITY?
THIS CITY is backed and owned by Manchester City Council. So residents are in safe hands and can feel good knowing that some of the rent paid goes to fund other projects that make a difference, like more homes, better public spaces and services.
In relation to the No. 1 Ancoats Green development, there were other grant funding partners working to bring forward the development. We’ve had the wonderful support of One Public Estate and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
Further support in Ancoats came through the transformation of Ancoats Green and the Ancoats Mobility Hub project, supported by Homes England and through working with our neighbours like Manchester Life, Northern Group and HBD to bring forward a cohesive regeneration plan. More information can be found at Ancoats | Manchester City Council.
Sustainably built, consciously developed
Our homes have had sustainability designed in from day one, from the building fabric to how it operates and the practical features inside. So you can be confident that how you live will be planet-friendly now and in the future.
For example, on No. 1 Ancoats Green we’ve hit current embodied carbon targets for all apartments and achieved 2030 targets with our Townhouse design.
Hot water is warmed by an air source heat pump, a super-efficient way of extracting heat energy from the air outside.
And all our homes are electric only – so you can choose a 100% renewable energy provider and live a net zero life by making a few simple choices.
